Statue of Unity – World’s Tallest

Sardar Patel – one of the greatest personalities both during pre-independent as well as the post independent era.   His most notable contributions were the unification of the numerous princely states with the Indian union and the integration of Hyderabad (this happened when Nehru was on an European tour and Sardar was given the role of Acting Prime Minister).

However it is a pity that his contributions have been purposely sidelined to make the Gandhi-Nehru dynasty prosper.  Gandhiji succumbed to the influence of the rich & powerful Motilal Nehru and persuaded Patel to make way for Jawaharlal Nehru as the first prime minister of India.  If only this man was our first Prime Minister, the progress of this nation would have been a different story altogether.

What Patel did as the Home Minister was much more than what  Nehru did as the Prime Minister.  Such  was the power, character and  efficiency Sardar Patel.  But our history books hardly tell us about this person while they devote hundreds of pages for Nehru, Indira, Rajiv & Sonia.  The new generation hardly identifies him.   That’s how our nation repaid Patel for his contributions.

But the same is not the case with Modi’s Gujarat.  There are numerous statues and pictures of Sardar Patel in every nook & corner of the state.  Sardar Patel Memorial Museum at Shahibaug, Ahmedabad is too a great place to learn and remember this great person.

Last week, in a function organised to mark the 10th year of BJP rule in the state, Chief Minister Narendra Modiji announced the proposal of erecting a grand statue of Patel at the Sadhu Bet riverbed of Narmada, about  3 k.m from the Sardar Sarovar dam.

STATUE OF UNITY –  That’s how this statue will be named.  Perhaps the best tribute to the man who united the 550 odd princely states with Indian Union.

At an imposing 182 meters height, something really befitting the stature of the Iron Man of India.

For comparison, this will be twice the height of ‘Statue of Liberty’ and four times the  height of the ‘Christ the Redeemer’ at Rio.

Visitors would have to reach the site in boats.   There would be a high tech museum chronicling 90 years history of India’s freedom fighters (1857-1947).  It will also be developed as a Research & Academic centre for preserving the unity and integrity of India, its culture & richness.  Also would be a centre for research on agriculture, which was so dear to Sardar Patel.

In short, this will not just be an imposing statue just in terms of its sheer height, but a befitting tribute to all great sons of India.

Hats off to Modiji for lavishing such a wonderful tribute to Sardar Patel.

Indecent Proposal

All of a sudden, like Rip Van Winkle, she wakes up.. only to realize that the world around her has changed.  Truckloads  of money has found its way to Swiss lockers belonging to her bete  noires.  A clear case of daylight robbery.  How could I ever miss it??

AIADMK  leader Jayalalithaa was missing from the national political limelight for a surprisingly long time.  An unexplained political hibernation.

When it comes to playing the dirty game of politics, she was always the master and it was proved time and again.  For the very same reasons, she was always the darling of the media.

Boom….she exploded yet another political bomb….a bomb that announced her return to the political limelight.

This time, she pulled out an offer from her sleeve to present sonia  gandhi.   Hell of an offer which sonia cannot afford to refuse…..reminding us of Don Vito Corleone  (Godfather).

”THROW  THE CORRUPT  MINISTER OUT…  IF IT IS THE NUMBER THAT WORRIES YOU, I PROMISE TO FILL THE GAP”…. thundered Jayalalitha  freshly awake after a mighty slumber.

This open offer made through a leading media made a big wave in the political scenario.  Everybody began breaking their head on how things could work out.

This was exactly the fodder that the media was looking for.  The newspapers and television channels started breaking their head on arithmetics.

She has just nine M.Ps but confidently promises the support of over 18 M.Ps.  Who all could be part of the Jaya bandwagon?

Kumaraswamy, Vaiko, Sharad Yadav…. and who else?

Wow… the political drama has just got the much needed twist.  Thanks to Jayalalitha and her ‘INDECENT PROPOSAL’.

Corruption- Unit of Measurement

Gone are the good old days when scams could be measured in lakhs or in crores.

Still fresh in mind is Congress Party’s argument that 67 lakhs of Indian currency cannot be carried by one single person (read Narasimha Rao), as alleged by the opposition.  Poor old man, should have been a very difficult job indeed.

It is high time we come up with a new unit of measurement for corruption.

The problem is that the unit should be really big enough to accommodate the monstrous greed of today’s leaders.

In astronomy, inter-galactic distance is conveniently measured in ‘lightyears’ (distance traversed by an unit of light in one year).  No other unit of measurement would be possible.

The unit of corruption in India should be something bigger than even the lightyears.

See the performance report:

  • Amount illegally deposited by Indians in Swiss Banks: Eighty Lakh Crores
  • Amount swindled by UPA minister in 2G Spectrum case: 1.76 Lakh Crores
  • Amount swindled by Kalmadi & Co. in CWG: A few Lakh Crores

One thing for sure, there need to be a new unit of corruption.  As of now, we can safely coin it as L.C (Lakh Crores).

Yes, obviously, we need to leave provision for future expansion gauging by the way UPA government is performing.  Soon L.C would need a prefix.

Good Luck……….Keep IT up.

Judicially In’Sen’sitive!

Yet again, another blot on the face of Indian Judiciary.

This time, it is the Calcutta High Court Judge Soumitra Sen who has polluted the sanctity of the Indian Judicial System.

A Judicial Committee has been set up by Vice-President & Chairman, Rajya Sabha Shri Hamid Ansari to look into the charges of misappropriation and false declarations against Shri Soumitra Sen.  This might eventually lead to impeachment proceedings against him.

Shri Sen is accused of charges under Art.124(4) read with proviso (b) to Art 217(1) of Constitution of India.  Constitution holds that a judge of a High Court shall not be removed from his office except on the grounds of’ proved misbehaviour’.  Supreme Court Judge B Sudershan Reddy, said the charges of” misappropriation were “duly proved” and this settles the matter.

Hitherto, the citizens had only the judiciary to lean upon since the legislative and executive machinery of this country are in corrupt hands.  With more of people like Sen holding crucial judicial positions, people of this country can hardly expect justice to be delivered.

Obama Visit

United States president, Barrack Obama is here.

But why is he here?  No specific answer.

Just another formal visit without any significant agenda.   Just the usual business, terror & outsourcing stuff like that.

*******************

Visiting  Taj Hotel, Mumbai to pay homage to the victims of the 26/11 attacks was the first item in his tour schedule.

Standing at the very same place which witnessed the worst terror attack on India, it was natural on the part of Indians to expect  him to condemn the role of Pakistan  in that episode of terror.   United States too had sufficient intelligence stuff to pinpoint Pakistan.

But Obama, as always was playing a safe game.   No mention about Pakistan and that obviously makes it very conspicuous.

The United States always had preferred Pakistan over India and this policy remains.  Pakistan being one of the biggest arms importer from the US, they enjoy a privileged status.  Even by mistake, Pakistan never gets blamed for any wrong doing.

Understood you have a soft corner for Pakistan, but why then this drama of paying homage to the terror victims and so??

We can well do without your Crocodile Tears.
